The Unusual Suspects team representing Punch’s Royal Oak in Kenilworth were winners of Britain’s largest pub quiz competition last month. In addition to the £2000 cash prize, the team also won the chance for the Royal Oak to host four celebrities in a unique Redtooth pub quiz challenge.
The celebrity team, consisting of Shaun Wallace (from The Chase), Paul Sinha (from The Chase), Pat Gibson (from The Eggheads) and Mike Steer (Educating Yorkshire), will compete against the Unusual Suspects team on 6 November.
Great British Quiz
Punch’s Great British Quiz has grown every year. After eight weeks of preliminary quizzes and regional finals across the UK, the final 24 teams battled it out in the national final of the competition held at Wolverhampton’s Molineux Stadium on 21st September.
The other 23 finalists also took home a minimum of £100 in cash prizes and were presented with trophies from the hosts Barry Simmons from BBC quiz show ‘Eggheads’ and Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett from ITV’s quiz show ‘The Chase’.
The quiz, which was run by Redtooth and sponsored by Carling, saw teams travel to the final from across the UK, from the far North of Scotland to Devon.
Punch Taverns’ Executive Chairman Stephen Billingham, who presented the winning team with their prize, said: “This year we have again seen over 1,100 pubs taking part. This really shows what a great driver quizzes are for bringing people together in pubs.”
