The bar area, as the central hub, was designed to completely define the space. Kevin Lomax, owner of bespoke furniture designers Lomax Interiors (see link below), was commissioned to create a handmade solution using the most humble of reclaimed materials.
Using the simplest of surplus materials, Kevin designed and manufactured a bar which would combine sustainability with beautiful results.
Claiming the wooden boards from used scaffolding planks, each piece of the bar front was individually stained to create a rich colour and achieve a bespoke finish. Using steel rivets to hold the boards in place further accentuates the desired industrial feel.
The result is a one-of-a-kind bar design which brings rustic warmth to the space.

Aside from the visual impact, it was important that texture was given an almost equal emphasis.
Using solid oak, Kevin created a bar top that would prove to be a functional talking point. A natural texture was desired, however in order to achieve a finish that would be beautifully rough to the touch yet practical as a drinks surface, the oak underwent a series of treatments. By ageing and de-stressing the surface and then sealing, a unique, gently textured surface was achieved.
In order to let the materials define the space, simple and sparse bar stools are dotted around unassumingly.
In the seating area, leather-effect couches with faded leather complement the muted colour scheme throughout. Continuing the reclaimed theme, tables with basic Formica tops sit on chunky scaffolding structures.
The Dockyard bar is located on the ground floor of the Blue Tower, Media City UK.
