Food and wine from around the world combine with a memorable day of racing at Ascot’s Festival of Food and Wine Raceday on Saturday 6 September – with Chef and TV personality James Martin headlining the event for the second year, following a successful debut in 2013.
As part of his involvement James Martin will be serving an exclusive three-course set-menu at Ascot’s spectacular new restaurant On 5 where guests can look forward to a personal visit from him as part of their experience.
He will also demonstrate two of his dishes, one sweet and one savoury at a Food and Wine stage for Premier and Grandstand Admission racegoers.
James Martin said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the Ascot Festival of Food and Wine for the second year. It’s a fantastic day out that gives people the chance to combine great racing with an opportunity to sample the best in local cuisine and learn how to recreate their own delicious dishes at home. There was a real buzz around the cooking demonstration that I did last year and I’m looking forward to returning for more of the same in a few weeks times.
“I’m also honoured to be designing a menu for Ascot’s new restaurant, On 5 on 6 September. On 5 opened to great acclaim for Royal Ascot in June. It will be fantastic to test it out myself and I hope to see many of you there.”
Local and international produce
Alongside a seven race card headlined by the country’s most valuable mile-and-a-half handicap, racegoers can also look forward to a host of local and international produce from food stalls including the Food Emporium, Chocolate Tree, Fabulous Fudge, The Honest Carrot, Surrey Fine Foods, Lymn Bank Cheese featuring cheese in 17 flavours and the Wiltshire Chilli Farm. Plus the opportunity to sample some of the finest international wines, including a Royal Ascot selection, at the Wine Festival hosted by connoisseurs Bibendum.
Great Ascot Bake Off
To celebrate the Festival of Food and Wine at the racecourse, Ascot is offering one lucky racegoer the chance to win a Fine Dining experience for themselves and three friends through its Great Ascot Bake Off. To enter racegoers are invited to create and bring a cake with them to the Bandstand restaurant at the Festival of Food and Wine Raceday on 6 September. Judging will be based on creativity and presentation.
