Global Infusion Group’s GIG Sport division has excelled at the inaugural Invictus Games, ensuring that athletes and event crew feasted on a delicious range of global cuisines from its kitchens.
The international meeting for wounded and sick serving military personnel and veterans, inspired by Prince Harry, welcomed around 400 competitors from 13 nations, who battled it out over four days in disciplines ranging from athletic track and field events, to road cycling and archery.
5,445 meals served
Contracted by CSM, a leading global agency delivering memorable sporting and entertainment events, GIG SPORT built a temporary structure at the Here East venue within Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, stocked with free-standing equipment where their chefs prepared a range of buffet-style dishes.
The sole caterer for the event, GIG’s experienced team served an impressive 5,445 meals to athletes, team officials, production and event support staff throughout the four-day event from 10 – 14 September.
Bonnie May, GIG’s Global Operations Director, said: “It is a privilege to have been able to play a part in this special event which supports our military personnel and celebrates their achievements as they recover from the terrible injuries they have suffered in the line of duty.
Delighted to welcome Prince Harry
“We were also delighted to welcome Prince Harry to Here East on several occasions throughout the Games and hope he enjoyed the meals he selected from our extensive menu.”
CSM’s Glen Hunt said: “GIG’s hard working and happy crew delivered great food and in generous quantities. We are absolutely delighted with the service received and thank the whole team for their contribution to this most successful celebration of sporting achievement!” Organised by The Royal Foundation of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge & Prince Harry, in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, the gathering was inspired by the Warrior Games in Colorado, which Prince Harry visited last year.
The Games were supported by the delivery team from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where GIG SPORT was the sole caterer at five venues and the Broadcast caterer at 22 Olympic venues.
Teams from Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand and the USA arrived in London at the beginning of last week, enjoying an opening ceremony on Wednesday, 10th September, which included the Competitor’s Parade, a fly past by the Red Arrows and an exclusive performance of the official anthem written by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
