A talented chef with a wealth of experience gained from working in top-class venues around the globe is aiming to make his mark in North Yorkshire.
Ed Allen, who launched his culinary career in a two rosette restaurant in Hampshire and has a degree in culinary arts management, is using his talents to promote the Drovers Arms, in the picturesque village of Skipwith, as a must-visit venue for the region’s foodies.
Ed, who has worked in a string of Michelin star restaurants, most recently The Pipe and Glass in Beverley, has also honed his culinary skills in venues in Australia and a 5-star resort in Cape Cod, USA.
The 27-year-old is working closely with owners Graham Usher and Martin Firth to further develop The Drovers Arms’ already impressive lunch and dinner menus, and said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed as head chef of The Drovers Arms. My number one goal is to develop a menu that is broad enough to appeal to a pub clientele as well as those who are looking for something rather special.
“My passion for food means that I love using fresh, high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients to create unique and tasty dishes, which is key to continuing our culinary success.”
The Drovers Arms recently received two prestigious awards. It was named one of Yorkshire’s top 30 pubs 2014 by Welcome to Yorkshire and is a winner of the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence 2014.
With customers coming from the outskirts of York and Leeds, and even from Goole and Hull, many make a 30-mile plus journey to sample the seasonal full menu, the sell-out Sunday lunches and the tasty range of vegetarian options.
