Now open on the banks of the River Wey, a stone’s throw from the centre of historic Guildford, The Weyside boasts a seasonal menu celebrating the best of British produce, and is Young’s first venture in the city. Also featuring an unrivalled outdoor terrace complete with al fresco bar and bbq, its style and friendly service should entice and retain the customers.
The interior is made up of a collection of unique spaces: The Barn, with its exposed beams and brick walls, brightly coloured paintwork and bric-à-brac laden shelves; the light and airy Conservatory featuring quirky geese-motif wallpaper; or even – if it’s not warm – customers can grab a hot water bottle, and unwind on the decking.
The bustling main pub features an old carpenter’s block laden with freshly made cakes, while next to the bar, a large kitchen table seating up to 10 catches the action opposite the theatre kitchen.
The menu
Stand out starters feature the likes of The Weyside Scotch egg; hazelnut crusted goat’s cheese, heritage beetroots, Cox apples, celeriac and honey salad; or haddock smokey with poached egg and toasted soldiers.
Main course offers half or whole spring herb butter rotisserie chicken with Caesar salad; roasted broccoli, haricot bean, spring herb, blood orange and lentil salad with lemon dressing; or 8oz hand cut sirloin of Surrey Angus beef, served with house butter, tomatoes, mushrooms and rustic chips.
The sweet toothed will find spiced plum and clotted cream rice pudding; lemon and thyme posset with shortbread biscuits; and warm chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce and honeycomb ice cream impossible to resist.
As you’d expect, the pub offers an enviable range of the finest craft and premium beers as well as Young’s award winning cask ales and a strong list of wines from around the globe. A range of thirst-quenching long drinks using premium spirits such as Sipsmith gin and Fever Tree tonic are also available.
