The freehold of the Six Bells, 2010 Camra Best Hertfordshire Pub, is on the market through leisure property specialists Fleurets from an asking price of £1,300,000.
Current owners Patrick and Jo Remmington, who took occupation of the pub in 2005, confess “With its five Centuries of activity and its picturesque location, the Six Bells is proudly part of our British heritage and still plays an active role in the local community.”
Six Bells is so rich with the city’s past that it featured in the Rory McGrath Pub Dig TV series – when the car park was excavated to search for Roman treasure.
Historic but with healthy accounts
“The Six Bells is a historic pub of rare beauty, in fact, I wish I lived next door.”– says Fleurets’ Divisional Director Andy Frisby. “Trading accounts for the Six Bells demonstrate that this is a very profitable and healthy business. The idyllic setting, good quality food offer and the welcoming atmosphere that Jo has been able to deliver for almost a decade is key to the success of the business.”
The property, which dates back to the 15th Century, is located on St Michaels Street, within close proximity to the historic Roman Verulam and Verulamium Park. The Six Bells is a two-storey brick built, traditional pub with low beamed ceilings. Internally the pub has an extensive fireplace, 23-cover restaurant, and 60-cover bar area. There is also a trade garden to the rear and car park. On the first floor, the domestic accommodation features a two bedroom flat with an open plan kitchen and lounge and bathroom.
