Geronimo Inns is pleased to announce a year-long partnership with the London City Farms and Community Gardens Association (LCFCGA). Geronimo Inns will be supporting the LCFCGA through sponsorship of the City Harvest event in September 2014 as well as donating proceeds from monthly Tasty Tuesday events held at various pubs to the charity.
At group level Geronimo Inns’ staff will be encouraged to volunteer at the farms and gardens, and at a local level the pubs will be supporting their nearest farm in as many ways as possible – including using produce from the community gardens on the menus.
Sustainability credentials
This announcement comes just a few weeks after Geronimo Inns was named ‘Most Sustainable Large Group’ at this year’s Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) annual awards ceremony which in turn came only a few weeks after Geronimo Inns became the first large pub group to receive the highest possible rating , Three Stars, from the SRA.
The group scored highly across the SRA’s Sustainability Rating, serving its 5 million customers a year with locally sourced food, demonstrating an exceptional level of environmental responsibility and showing a genuine commitment to working closely with the community.
Ed Turner, MD of Geronimo Inns commented:
“We are not ones to rest on our laurels, receiving the SRA award and being awarded 3 stars for us does not mean ‘great, well done us – job done’, far from it – this is just the start. We see the pub as an integral part of the community, it is the very essence of what we do at Geronimo – it’s our DNA, this is why I am so pleased that we are going to be working closely with our friends at the LCFCGA this year, and I hope for many years to come.”
About the LCFCGA
The LCFCGA is a registered charity working with the UK Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens, which supports, represents and promotes community-managed farms, gardens, allotments and other green spaces, creating opportunities for local communities to grow.
They work with community groups to help empower local people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to build better communities, often in deprived areas, and to make a positive impact on their surrounding environment. Their work contributes to creating better communities across the UK in both urban and isolated rural areas.
Catherine Miller from LCFCGA said “It is fantastic to be working with Geronimo Inns, in support of our London network of community farms and gardens, which do so much good in their local neighbourhoods.”
