A new Liverpool bar concept, created by the team behind Chaophraya Restaurants, provides the dramatic setting for a unique Armourcoat Sculptural installation. Created by Thai native Kim Atcharaporn Kaewkraikhot, the exclusive restaurant/bar chain (currently in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool) has received rave reviews and is listed in the top three Thai restaurants in the UK.
The Palm Sugar Lounge occupies part of the 10,000 square foot Chaophraya restaurant site in the Liverpool One retail and leisure complex in the city centre. The lounge consists of a large VIP bar and a smaller ultra-exclusive club lounge with its own bar and booths. Within the main lounge, and behind the long bar front which runs the length of the space, a stunning Armourcoat Sculptural installation accentuates the natural light and interior design to the full. A double „Flow Wave‟ feature over a five metre high wall – one inverted above the other – is an original and creative use of the designs available.
Designed by Boyce Associates, who also worked on the Leeds restaurant, the inspiration for the Palm Sugar Lounge originated from the bars found within five-star hotels in Bangkok. Boyce Associates Director Dave Robinson, commented; “The restaurant design was given a contemporary western twist, and the bar design is an extensive of this. There is an extensive use of water features, as Chaophraya is the main river that flows through Bangkok, water is a key feature to these developments.”
The Armourcoat Sculptural range offers seamless contoured wall surfaces with impactful designs and cast relief. The designs are created from cast GRG (Glass-fibre Reinforced Gypsum) panels, CAD generated to enable a continuous pattern or unique decorative effect.
Sculptural panels are mineral based and incorporate up to 30% post-consumer recycled content (depending on design), are non-toxic, and are completely non-combustible. The panels are extremely dense and hard with a smooth ceramic-like surface. Each design can be finished in a range of decorative effects such as ArmourCoat Spatulata polished plaster and ArmourColor Perlata.
