KFC, one of the UK’s leading quick service restaurant chains, has announced a partnership with WiFi provider The Cloud to offer free WiFi access across its UK restaurants. Following a short roll-out period, customers will be able to access internet from their mobile devices, allowing them to browse the internet, access social networks and ultimately enjoy an improved experience at KFC outlets.
With smartphone ownership at an all time high, the onus is on businesses such as restaurants, cafes, bars and retailers to tap into this opportunity and offer customers an efficient way of going online.
Nathan James, Senior Manager, Brand Experience, KFC UK said:
“We are operating in a highly competitive industry and are always looking for ways to improve our restaurants. As more and more of our customers are using smart devices, we know internet connectivity is fast becoming a key part of the restaurant experience. Diners want to be able to browse, access social networks, search for retail outlets around them to plan their day, or access KFC-related information and special offers. The new WiFi service offers exactly this and helps ensure we provide an enjoyable dining experience.”
KFC-branded landing page
When logging in to the service, customers will be directed to a KFC-branded landing page, which will contain restaurant information, menus and also special offers. From here users can access the web, but the restaurant chain hopes the landing page itself will enable more effective engagement, with customers able to easily see all menu items and be driven to certain items through discounts and offers.
Fast internet on the go
Vince Russell, Managing Director of The Cloud, said:
“The ability to access fast internet whilst on the go is increasingly important to UK consumers. Beyond allowing customers to get online, there are great opportunities to use WiFi to improve the customer experience and ultimately boost customer loyalty and sales. Fast and reliable WiFi paves the way for new technologies such as mobile payments to reduce queue times, QR codes to discover more about a product, as well as targeted advertising of specific products and offers via the WiFi landing page. At a time when the UK fast food industry is booming, but is also becoming increasingly competitive, this service can give KFC the edge.”
An estimated 7m people every day pass through The Cloud network by visiting one of its partners, including major outlets like M&S, Wetherspoon, WH Smith and Caffè Nero, as well as First Great Western and Network Rail stations.
