Intelity, hospitality technology powerhouse and identified by The New York Times as a provider of a “digital edge” for hotels, has released the highlights of a two-year study of guestroom iPad usage. This is the first study conducted using actual usage by hotel guests, and confirms that service via tablets is becoming a preferred method of accessing and ordering guest services.
The study showed that 82% of guests used the tablet during their stays on a year-round basis. April had the highest average guest usage at 91%. The average number of uses (also called transactions) per stay was 11.
Of the 35 hotel guest services offered, the three most popular were:
- In-room dining at 41% of total requests
- Wake-up calls at 21% of total requests
- Housekeeping requests at 7% of total transactions
The new mark of luxury service in hotels
David Adelson, Intelity CEO and president commented:
“Our data reveals that travelers are becoming increasingly dependent on full service mobile enterprise platforms. In-room tablets have quickly become the new mark of luxury service in hotels.”
Intelity’s ICE (Interactive Customer Experience™) Touch on iPads is the first and only full hotel service enterprise platform in hotels. The award-winning technology was first to be launched on iPads in hotel rooms in September 2010, just four months after iPads became available. Participating hotels in the two-year study were all ICE Touch equipped hotels.
Evidence of the effects of the mobile technology revolution has already become evident in the travel industry surveys as well. TripAdvisor said recently that three out of four travelers consider their iPad a carry-on essential.
“It appears that guests are finding hotel services provided on mobile devices to be more convenient than waiting on the telephone or in a line,” Adelson observed.
