Last week we started a new feature, ‘My Favourite Restaurant’, which we are glad to report was the best read story in last week’s newsletter. So as with all things HandCNews.com if it works for visitors it works for us.
We are pleased that our second instalment in this series comes from a guest contributor who is no stranger to fine dining, Nick Green of Villeroy & Boch. Nick gets to eat at some of the finest dining establishments in the world, literally, so his opinion is based on first hand extensive experience and knowledge of varied first class dining establishments.
So here’s Nick’s view…
“Asking someone from Villeroy & Boch to name their favourite restaurant is something of a poisoned chalice! If I pick one customer, I may unintentionally offend others, the last thing I would want to do.
So from a Villeroy & Boch point of view my favourite restaurant is any restaurant that uses our tableware.
We are very privileged to supply a vast array of restaurants ranging from gastro pub to fine dining, encompassing 1 to 5 AA Rosettes and Bib Gourmand to 3 Michelin Stars. So one and all, thank you for your business.
From a personal point of view the criteria for my favourite restaurant are…
Food – Service – Location – Decor – Atmosphere, and of course the company you are with.
So from a personal point of view my favourite restaurant changes almost weekly.
If I look back at the last month I have had the pleasure of…
Lunch at Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons, fantastic food and service as always. You can take a Michelin star chef to Le Manoir and they are always inspired and appreciative of Raymond and his team’s everyday and absolute application to excellence.
Mya Lacarte in Caversham, delivers great value and a friendly service.
The Bay, a local Indian restaurant in Woodley offers great value and very, very tasty Indian cuisine.
The Mole Inn, Toot Balden near Oxford, a great example of a gastro pub.
The Old Auctioneer in Banbury, simply great pub grub and my last lunch with one of my colleagues who will be leaving Villeroy & Boch at the end of the month.
So putting aside Villeroy & Boch favouritism, my favourite restaurant would be any restaurant of any level with great food, great wine or real ale, great service and of course great company.
The subject of ‘My Favourite Restaurant‘ will always be a personal view and ‘one man’s meat is another man’s poison’ to use a wholly inappropriate saying!
However to get into my favourites, the restaurant has to offer…great food, great wine, a special ambience, and great company. If the restaurant serves its guests via Villeroy & Boch it’s an added bonus!”
