Wildcats claw their way to victory at The Wordbox Knockout Challenge

Following an action packed afternoon of giant inflatables, water, foam and many crazy costumes, The Wildcats team from SME Invoice Finance, clawed their way to victory decked out in feline fancy dress, in the town’s first Wordbox Knockout Challenge.

This fundraising event which was held on 10 June on Stoke Park, marked 15 years in business for Guildford PR agency, The Wordbox Group and saw 20 teams battle it out to raise money for CHASE, the local children’s hospice.

Games ranged from the madcap It’s Raining Cats and Dogs – a manic water collecting challenge in which sponges were thrown over inflatable mountain peaks – to the more genteel Ski-sy Peasy, a humorous game in which teams walked in welly-skis to the end of the course and back again (not as easy as it sounds).

The finale saw teams race knee deep through a pit of foam, balls and bubbles against the clock to collect as many plastic ducks as possible.

Jane Newick, managing director, The Wordbox Group explains…

“Local businesses really got behind the whole idea and were very keen to support us.  Many saw the Knockout as an opportunity to thank staff for additional effort they had put in over the last 18 months, whilst raising money for an excellent local cause.

Several companies very generously entered two teams or provided additional sponsorship which was great.

“This year is a milestone year for us and we are delighted that we have been able to celebrate 15 years in business with such a memorable day.  To be supporting such a worthwhile charity as CHASE makes the day even more special for us.

“All credit must go to SME Invoice Finance, a very deserving winner that put 110% into the day.  They were extremely determined to win and their enthusiasm was infectious.  They are a highly motivated team and I imagine an inspiring company to work with.”

Neil Galloway, Wildcat team captain was thrilled to beat off stiff competition from Rainmaker and Ringway and said of the team’s victory,  “It was great fun competing against lots of other local business teams, knowing that we were helping to raise money for such a great local cause at the same time. We really enjoyed the day and hope that the event becomes an annual fixture so that we can defend our hard won title next year. Congratulations to everyone at Wordbox for organizing such a brilliant afternoon.”

A special thanks goes to Janet Street who provided the catering for the day and to Vince Bennett who captured the event in pictures as the official photographer.  The Wordbox is currently collecting in sponsorship monies and will announce how much the event raised soon.
